2012: Palin v. Obama

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

With the presidential race tilting strongly to Obama, the press must invent stories, such as voter anxiety, to fill the void. They might do a little analysis, but that requires work. Is Obama winning, or is McCain losing? If the stock market hadn’t crashed, would the race still be too close to call? A scary thought: Without an economic disaster, Sarah Palin might be a heartbeat away from the Oval Office.

The Republicans’ nightmare

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Fear & Loathing among the electorate! I’m not the only one having nightmares. Given what we’ve endured under Bush for more than seven years, I can’t help feeling a little schadenfreude at the news from the other side.

I’m 61, and I know that if you added up all the clothes, cars and houses I’ve bought in my lifetime, they didn’t cost $150,000. Death and Taxes

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

What’s wrong with spreading around the wealth? Money can’t buy happiness — one look at McCain’s haggard expressions of late proves that — but it will put gas in the tank and pay for groceries. Even all McCain’s wealth (inherited by his wife) won’t make him immortal. More relevant is: Can the republic survive a McCain presidency?
