Despite the wind and clouds, I had to get out today. The wind did keep the smaller birds down, but I saw some larger ones.
I started at Halpatiokee Regional Park. By the river I saw four Swallow-Tailed Kites looking for insects. They’re very aerobatic, but rarely fly close together.
A Red-Shouldered Hawk objected to their presence and made a pass at one from below. Unfortunately, the fight took place behind a tree line so I couldn’t get any photos. The hawk finally gave up, and I finally got a photo of all four kites together.
The wind over the St. Lucie River got annoying so I went to Kiplinger Parcel. I saw a Red-Bellied Woodpecker, but the ospreys were not around today. I did find this evidence of a murder.
This could be the claw of a Land Crab, that was eaten by a raccoon.
